XS Innovations strengthens team and advances development through new grants and preclinical testing

May 2026

XS Innovations continues to make strong progress in the development of XSGuard™, our implantable solution designed to dynamically control blood flow through an arteriovenous fistula for haemodialysis.

We are pleased to welcome Fadi Nkoma Fakih to the team as Senior Engineer. Fadi will support the further development, testing and industrialization of XSGuard™, strengthening our engineering capabilities as we move towards the next stage of product development.

We have also secured two important collaborative grants. Through the Eurostars program, XS Innovations will work with Biomodics and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) on the development of advanced biomaterials and integrated technologies for improved dialysis access. In addition, an MIT R&D grant has been awarded for our collaboration with Surgical Solutions, supporting further technical development and validation activities.

At the same time, the team is conducting an extensive program of preclinical testing. These studies are focused on validating device performance, safety, implantation, actuation and long-term functionality. The results will provide important input for design optimization, risk management and preparations for clinical development.

With an expanded team, strong research partnerships and multiple development programs underway, XS Innovations remains on track with its roadmap towards design finalization and first-in-human evaluation.

Joris Rotmans: “The combination of engineering progress, preclinical evidence and close collaboration with our partners is bringing us step by step closer to our goal: creating a more reliable and patient-friendly vascular access solution for haemodialysis.”
